Do watches/clocks require periodic checks?
For safe and longtime use, checks (at cost) should be made every two to three years.
Any kind of watch/clock that is a solar-powered type, automatic power generating type, radio-controlled type, mechanical type, etc., requires periodic checks.
If any operating part(s) inside the mechanism wears out or becomes dirty, the battery(ies) will be exhausted early. (The same holds true for solar-powered watches/clocks using secondary batteries and automatic power generating watches/clocks.) Therefore, periodic checks (at cost) are recommended.
Also, since the water resisting performances of watches/clocks deteriorate with time, the gaskets, etc., need to be replaced to maintain water resistance.
